Of course, everybody wants a dog that can sit, can heel and can fetch on command – who doesn’t? Unfortunately, not everybody can afford the time and money a professional dog academy would require. Does this mean you can’t have the convenience and luxury of a trained dog? Definitely not! It’s not a privilege but a need that one’s canine should have even the basic dog manners taught to it. While dog schools are out of the question for most of us, there are numerous dog training DVDs made available for us to use instead.

A dog training DVD is usually produced and promoted by a professional animal trainer. Having a dog that can “sit!” when told to do so does not make you a professional trainer. The peson you see on the video is probably certified or has gone to an animal/veterinary school to get the required courses for their chosen career. If you’re planning to purchase one of these products, ask yourself what do you want to teach your pet? If he’s starting from zero, then look for a video that covers the fundamental obedience commands. If you need to get specific behavior modification pointers; then you might have to search the internet for a website that offers an extensive DVD collection. Browse through their offerings per subject and pick out a title that would answer your doggie training needs.

Since there are only very few, strong video stand alone nowadays, the best place to look for these products would be the internet. Amazon usually have a lot of these instructional DVDs to sell. Websites catered specifically for dog lovers usually have a page of product offerings including training resources. You should also click on buy and sell sites for owners who want to give away as a really low price old, second-hand training DVDs – although this is probably not the most reliable way to get one.

Average dog training videos have prices from $20-$50; depending on how many CDs are included in the pack or what other literature it comes with. Some sites will offer discounts and free gifts if you order right away. If you believe that the particular DVD will be a much used tool in training your dog, then by all means purchase it as soon as you are able. It is worth it for sure. However, if you don’t feel like you really need a certain product and are just lured by the great bargain, do not go off spending on that DVD first. You may have better use for your pet fund.

Owning an obedient and trained dog does not need to be the most expensive item in your list. With dog training DVDs, it’s more than possible to get a great canine education for the fraction of the price it might have cost you. You might not be capable of bringing your dog to a dog school – but thanks to innovative trainers and technology, the dog can now go to your own home.
