Singapore is an island city that is unique in many ways. Here are some of the things you should do when touring the city. Firstly, dining is an attraction in itself. Eating is a local pastime, the reason being that many cultures have given rise to several types of cuisines. There are Malay, Indian, Peranakan, Traditional Chinese, Eurasian and even Western food all over the country. Many a time, you can choose from these many cuisines at a hawker centre or coffee shop. These are essentially open-air food courts with rows of food stalls.

Singapore seeks to be a centre for the arts. Over the course of the calendar year, there are many performances (concerts, musicals, plays, short films etc) at several arts venues. Noteworthy ones include the Esplande – Theatres on the Bay, Victoria Concert Hall and Theatre, The Substation also, the Arts House. While almost all performances are ticketed ones, there are also numerous short film screenings and even plays that are free and aim more to promote the arts and educate the young and aspiring artists. Being a multi-cultural society, it is a must for tourists to visit the ethnic enclaves of the different races. These include Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam and Arab Street. You’ll find all things customary to the culture at each of these ethnic enclaves. Anything from authentic food to traditional products and clothes, you’ll find it at these places. There are also unique food and shopping streets. Tourists will also be able to visit the Hindu temples in Little India, Chinese temples in Chinatown and also the majestic Sultan Mosque at Arab Street.
