How Comes There Are So Many Godzilla Toy And Action Figures To Collect?
Most science fiction and horror shows and comic books generate toys relevant to those titles. An exceedingly admired motion picture character turned toy character is Godzilla. First appearing in Japan in the 1950s, Godzilla has conquered a global cult audience. Thousands of games in Godzilla’s likeness have been created. If you like this fire-breathing prehistoric monster, odds are you need to collect the countless Godzilla action figures in existence.
Whether you refer to him as Godzilla or Gojira, there’s no argument that the giant green lizard is possibly Japan’s biggest import, at least next to Hello Kitty and that Asahi beer. Initially a menacing monster and metaphor for the nuclear bomb, Godzilla transformed over time since he debuted in 1954, as film director Eji Tsuburaya realised that his largest group of fans were kids, with all of their delicious licensing dollars.
Kaiju collecting can abruptly turn into a very costly as well as addicting fad. Since the 1960s the kaiju collector has had an escalating number of toys to spend their hard earned cash on, and for most fans, the most enjoyable element of enjoying a collection is to look for that hard to find poster, lobby, card, tin toy, etc. Oddly enough, the primary collectible Godzilla toy wasn’t even manufactured in Japan, but was the America model set built by Aurora. For the majority of fans though, the most admired sought after collectible isn’t that rare poster, CD or model set. For many a fan, the most admired and widely collected Godzilla items are the vinyl Godzilla toys which have stayed popular for over three decades.
