UV Clothing Helps Keep Skin Protected

Posted on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in Brandnew

Summer is here again and with it we have the heat and the sun.  It is a great time of year to enjoy the outdoors, but it is important to take precautions to keep yourself safe.  In addition to applying sunblock and wearing sunglasses is important to wear UV protective clothing to protect your body where you don’t apply sunblock.

Standard light-colored, light and loosely-woven summer clothing is actually not good enough when the sun is scorching outside.  Research has shown that sun protective clothing is one of the most proven ways to protect against skin cancer.  Typical T-shirts and light-weight fabrics can allow fifty percent of harmful ultraviolet B rays through to your skin.

UV protective clothing is specially created to protect you from the negative effects of the sun when you are outdoors.  Here are multiple reasons why you might want to purchase UV clothing.  According to the National Cancer Institute, overexposure to sun is the most common cause of skin cancer in the United States.

1 out of 5 Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime.  More than a million new instances of skin cancer will be found this year in the USA.  Melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer is the most common amongst individuals 25-29.  It is the 2nd most frequently diagnosed type of cancer in the age group of fifteen to twenty nine.   Once every 62 minutes an American  dies because of Melanoma.

You can protect yourself by wearing UV protective clothing.  No matter what part of the country or the globe you reside in it is imperative to shield your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.  Summer, Spring, Winter or Fall, the sun emits harmful UV rays that can damage your skin causing premature aging or even skin cancer.  All clothing is certified to be UV protective by the Australian/New Zealand Standard 4399 (AS/NZS 4399) based on a combination of protection and comfort.  Take care of yourself with UV protection clothing.
