To begin, you need to obtain copies of your credit score and credit reports. So let’s start with your credit report. You can get your yearly credit reports from the government. The government allows you to request credit reports from the three major credit reporting agencies each year.

You need to complete the rest of your credit profile by getting your credit score. Now we got that taken care of let’s work on getting your free credit score. There’s not a similar Federal program that allows you to request an absolutely free credit score. So the only way to do this is to sign up for a free credit monitoring trial which will give you a copy of your credit score.

With your credit score in front of you you can now understand what are good credit scores. You FICO score goes from 300 on the low end to 850 on the high end. The higher the score the better. From 740 to 850 you will have the best credit score and qualify for the lowest interest rates.

The benefits of having a credit score are huge – you will get the lowest interest rates when you borrow money and you could also qualify for a better job. This is why your credit score is important.

Your score comes from the information contained in your credit report. You need to make sure the information in there is accurate so you will have the best possible credit score. Since you can request your credit reports from all three agencies it would be wise to spread out your request throughout the whole year. Now you can save thousands of dollars in interest on your credit cards and loans and hundreds of dollars on your auto and Home Insurance.
